The United States of America is a union of fifty states and is the third largest country in the world (after Russia and China). Besides its 50 states the country also includes a federal District of Columbia where Washington, the US capital is located. The country covers the area of more than 9.5 million km 2 (nine and a half million square kilometers). It is washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west.
The 48 states are situated in the middle of the continent of North America stretching from Canada in the north to Mexico, the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of California in the south. Alaska and Hawaii are not joined to the mainland. Alaska occupies the north-western part of the continent and it borders on Canada in the east. Hawaii islands lie in the Pacific Ocean, to the south-west of the mainland. The USA also has overseas territories with different levels of independence: Virgin Islands, Samoa, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and some others.
The American landscape is diverse and spectacular. The land varies from heavy forests to barren deserts. Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, the Rocky Mountains, the Great Lakes and Yellowstone National Park are world-famous American natural wonders.
Most of the US people live in the eastern half of the country. The Atlantic coastline is mainly lowland and indented. It is characterized by flooded river valleys and fertile lands. The Pacific coastline is mountainous and cut by numerous fjords. The old and forested Appalachian Mountains extend from the state of New York to the state of Georgia. There are interior lowlands (prairie lands) between the Cordillera and the Appalachian mountain chains. As for Alaska, the mysterious glaciers co-exist with the blooming Arctic tundra there.

But you will be able to celebrate your new dwelling and drink beer with your friends only after 21.

One of the greatest countries of the world is The United States of America. It is the fourth largest country in the world (after Russia, Canada and China). It is situated on the North American continent. The total area of the country is about nine and a half million square kilometres.
The USA is washed by three oceans: the Atlantic ocean, the Arctic ocean and the Pacific ocean and it borders only on two countries - Mexico in the south and Canada in the north.
The population of the country is more than 325 million people.
There are many mountains, lakes and rivers in the USA. The main mountains are the Cordilleras and the Appalachians. The two longest rivers are called the Missouri and the Mississippi.
The climate of the country is various: in the northern part, the winter is very cold, and in the southern part, the climate is subtropical. The climate of the central part of the country is continental and the climate of Alaska is arctic.

There are fifty states in the United States of America. Two of these states, Alaska and Hawaii, are not connected to the other states. The US are washed by the Pacific Ocean in the west, by the Atlantic Ocean in the east, by the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico in the south. In the north are situated Great Lakes. The Scots brought Halloween. The US government has three branches. The 1st branch is the Congress. The Congress is a meeting of representatives from all states. The people elect those representatives. The Congress makes the laws that everybody must obey. The Congress meets in the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. The Congress is divided into two parts, the Senate and the House of Representatives. Every state, no matter how large or small, sends two people to the Senate. These people are called senators. There are one hundred senators in the Senate. A senator"s term is six years. Each state also sends people to the House of Representatives. They are called congressmen or congresswomen. The number of congressmen from each state depends on the number of people who live in the state. All in all there are 425 congressmen in the House of Representatives. A representative"s term is two years. The Constitution gives many powers to the Congress. One important power of the Congress is the power to declare war. The 2nd branch of government is the President and his helpers. They carry out the laws that the Congress makes. The President signs bills and then they become law. The Vice President and members of the Cabinet help the President to make decisions. The US President is Commander in Chief of the country"s armed forces. A person who wants to become President must be at least 35 years old and must live in the United States for at least 14 years before becoming President. The President"s term is four years and one can be President for one or two terms, but not longer. The 3rd branch of government is the Supreme Court. It is made up of nine judges – the most important judges in the land. They have to make sure that the President and the Congress follow the Constitution. Americans are very proud of their Constitution. It was written more than 200 years ago and it is still working!

The bridge is frequently featured in movies. One of the most spectacular natural wonders of North America is Niagara Falls. It is situated between the state of New York and the province of Ontario. It actually contains three different waterfalls. The largest one, the Horseshoe Falls, is situated on the Canadian side. Grand Canyon is an extremely attractive tourist destination. The site is situated in Northern Arizona by the Colorado River. It is over several millions year. Although it’s not the largest canyon in the world, the view if this landmark is impressive with its colourful landscapes and spectacular vistas.
Yellowstone National Park is another remarkable natural sight. It is situated in the state of Wyoming, although it stretches to Montana and Idaho. It was the first national park in the world established to preserve natural geysers and wildlife. The park lies on top of a gigantic hotspot, which has a light molten rock on the surface. Tourists can find geysers and hot springs there. In addition, they can see grizzly bears and bison, deer and elk and many other wondrous things within the park borders. One of the most desired tourist destinations in the USA is Hollywood – the home of American film industry and entertainment. It is located in central Los Angeles and features several historic studios. The area of Hollywood also includes the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Paramount Pictures, Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive shopping opportunities and many other interesting places.
